    • Description

The hand-picked Pinot Noir grapes were de-stemmed into small open two and three tonne fermenters, with daily hand plunging and gentle pump overs during fermentation.

Attractive plum and cherry aromas are enhanced by some gamey undertones and smoky oak influence. Nice classic Pinot palate, with savoury and tight tannins at this youthful stage offering a firm direction. Lots of cherry and spice flavours, opening up to reveal a nice juiciness and increasing flavour intensity, but all within a very refined framework.

    Stonier

Stonier Wines was established at Merricks, on the cool southern edge of Victoria's picturesque Mornington Peninsula, in 1977. One of the first wineries in the region, Stonier first planted Chardonnay vines in 1978, followed by Pinot Noir in 1982. By 1988 the vineyard had expanded to 6 hectares, with Pinot Noir and Chardonnay the core focus for the winery. These two varieties are what Stonier, and the Mornington Peninsula, has built its reputation on.
Winemaker Mike Symons believes that winemaking is very much about natural balance in the vineyards and then nurturing the vineyard flavours with minimal intervention in the winery. Mike works closely with a small, tight-knit vineyard and winery team at Stonier to make Pinot Noir and Chardonnay that reflect the quality and character of the region and above all the Stonier vineyards.
Recently rated ‘Red’ five stars by James Halliday’s Wine Companion 2015 for their outstanding winery. Regularly producing wines of exemplary quality and typicity, Stonier will have at least two wines rated at 94 points or above, and has held a five-star rating for the previous two years.
