Viognier

Viognier is a white grape variety originally from the Northern Rhône. Viognier within Australia, has been gaining popularity over the last 10 years. With a number of producers coming together to promote the variety. The most significant plantings are in South Australia's Eden Valley, McLaren Vale, Langhorne Creek and Adelaide Hills. The Riverland, Riverina and Murray Valley, also have substantial plantings where it is used for blending and varietal wines.

In France it is grown in the tiny appellations of Château-Grillet and Condrieu. It is also famous for being part of the Côte Rôtie blend. In more recent years Viognier has become more popular in the Southern Rhone and Languedoc, where it thrives in the warmer climate.

The grape's tendency to develop high sugar but low acid, means it can be a difficult wine to make well. The variety is floral, spicy, dominated by apricots and viscous.

VINEA MARSON VIOGNIER 2010, 750ml (Bottle)

  • Beautiful, fine and balanced white.
  • The nose bristles and presents a variety of sensations, marzipan, soap, white flowers and something green and faintly herbal.
  • It's wonderful in the mouth - a very clear apricot - ripe, nectar like, offset by lovely acidity and a suggestion of salt and savouriness. Fleshy, but free of fat and redundancy.
