Nero d'Avola is the most important red wine grape in Sicily, named after Avola in the far south of the island. The wines produced are full bodied, with savoury tannins, plum or peppery flavours. Often compared to New World Shiraz's, Nero dAvola thrives in the hot dry climate of Sicily. It also contributes to Marsala blends.
