GSM

GSM is a name commonly used in Australia for a red wine consisting of a blend of Grenache, Shiraz (Syrah), and Mourvèdre (Mataro). This blend originated from the Southern Rhône in France. Grenache is the lightest of the three grapes, producing a pale red juice with soft berry scents and a bit of spiciness. As a blending component, it contributes alcohol, warmth and fruitiness without added tannins. Shiraz can contribute full-bodied, fleshy flavors of black fruits and pepper. It adds color, backbone and tannins and provides the sense of balance such blends require. Mourvèdre contributes elegance, structure and acidity to the blend, producing flavors of sweet plums, roasted game and hints of tobacco.

SC PANNELL 'PRONTO TINTO' 2009, 750ml (Bottle)

  • There is so much interest in this wine due to the old vine fruit and use of Spanish and Portugese grape varieties that this should or could be everyones, everyday red.
  • This wine has a complex fragrant nose where the fruit aromas of dark cherries and raspberries do not dominate.
  • There are hints of musk, roses, dried spices and herbs, as well as wet earth or petrichor (the term for the smell after rain). The palate is medium bodies and long with fine building tannins on the finish and no obvious oak influence.
