Barbera is a red grape grown extensively in Piedmonte, Italy. Brought into Australia by Italian immigrants, there are terrific examples coming from Mudgee, King Valley, Adelaide Hills and McLaren Vale. The best examples in Italy are Barbera d'Alba and Barbera d'Asti. Known for its low tannin and high acid, it can produce a wide range of styles. From fresh and fruity to full bodied, oaked age-worthy wines. Barbera has aromas of cherries, blackberries, plums and raspberries. |
