History of the cuvee: in 1994 we added the Rochegres plot to our estate, in 2002 came the one in La Rochelle, which overlooks the famous old windmill (moulin a vent in French) that gave its name to the appellation, then we started buying grapes from La Roche East facing Rochegres gives the wine finesse and supple tannins; south-east facing La Rochelle gives the cuvee its framework with power and depth while the Roche Noire grapes contribute liveliness and fruit. The manganese-rich subsoil endows nobility on the whole resulting in an all round Moulin a Vent that may be enjoyed from now for its fruity side or cellared to mature for up to 10 years.
Floral bouquet, iris, violet, peony, red and black fruit, hints of vanilla.
Concentration in finesse, tannins with a patina, creaminess, velvety suave texture, red and black cherry flesh, mineral and spicy vanilla notes to finish.
A fresh, ripe and intensely citrusy nose that also evidences hints of straw, dried rose and pear.
The rich but beautifully detailed middle weight flavors display racy acidity that keeps everything in the proper focus without making its presence felt with too much dryness.
Malbec, Petit Verdot and Merlot are three varieties that are particularly well suited to growing in the Margaret River winegrowing region. When blended together these varieties form a divine trinity creating a unique wine. The Malbec provides the fruit power and colour, the petit verdot the length and texture and the Merlot the structure. The fruit which made this wine came from a single vineyard in the Wilyabrup subregion of Margaret River belonging to Rick Cullen and Bettina Mangan. A wine with great drinkability and ageing potential.
Full spectrum of purple fruit, lifted and very bright.
Full of bright fleshy fruit with impressive richness all balanced by typical Cullen freshness - a vibrant acidity that confirms the class of all Cullen wines.
A gold medal winner at its only outing so far in the very strong Pinot Noir class at 2012 Tassie Wine Show, this is a cracker and continues the very high standard of wines from Joe Holyman.
A really fresh , vibrant and punchy wine on the nose. Some maraschino cherry, cranberry fruit, fresh cut flowers , smoked meats aromas
