There are flavours of twigs and camphor and bright blossomy raspberries - there's just a lot of flavour, full stop
Full-bodied and voluptuous on the palate, nuances of saddle leather and mineral emerge to complement the layers of spicy blue and black fruits. The wine is beautifully integrated with enough well-concealed tannin to keep this wine evolving for a decade
Its deep, dark and briary aromas of violets, cassis, blackberries, dark plums and plain chocolate reveal undertones of dried herbs and bramble.
Beautifully controlled and contained, its silky and elegant palate conceals its ample power and strength beneath an exterior of spotlessly fresh, pure blackcurrant and dark cherry fruit, camera-shy oak and tannin so delicate and fine that its genuine impact could easily be ignored. Evenly ripened, it also reveals classic nuances of dried herbs.
The 2009 vintage is reduced to around 25% of normal production so regrettably white allocations are tiny. Quantities of 2008 reds are on the upside back to normal (quantities of Mount Mary produced are always tiny to begin with!)
The Pinot starts with sweet aromas of strawberries and cream, mixed with sour cherries, stewed fruit and some savoury elements.
The palate continues the mix of sweet and savoury flavours with hints of bread or toast. The flavours are complimented with balanced light phenolics and a long pleasant finish. This Pinot will partner perfectly with rustic dishes such as coq au vin, particularly after a few years of bottle age.
A pure, wild, powerful nose of blackberry and tar is complimented by a gentle floral lift of lavender and violets.
Full-bodied with great concentration, silky tannins and perfectly judged extract, this vigorous and suave young wine has a long, long future ahead of it.
