A blend of Grenache, Shiraz and Mataro. Of the Torbreck new releases, my favourite to drink, despite (or perhaps in spite of) the score. Aniseed, coal, raisins, raspberry and cherries and choc-licorice. It’s medium-weight but has excellent density and presence with fine grained silky tannin, balanced acidity and an overall profile where using the word ‘smooth’ could not be more appropriate. It’s appropriately sweet and spicy too, but has an earthy regional cast to temper. Deliciously, and dangerously, drinkable.

"2009 Torbreck Steading GSM I must say that I prefer blends over..."

2009 Torbreck Steading GSM I must say that I prefer blends over straight varietals eg. Cabernet blends & Shiraz blends, they just do more for me. Having said that I do love a good Shiraz from the Barossa; someone who does both well is Torbreck. I must have had about 5 vintages of the Steading up to now and the '09 is a ripper... for me its like toast, with real butter and realy good honey added to the mix put them all together & yeah haa, just yummy! Give 2-3 years in the cellar if you can wait that long. As you have noticed I have not gone into what it taste's like: five spice, saddle leather and licorice are the first thing that come to mind. But for most important off all is the acidity; it just makes you salivate and makes you want to quaff the hell out of it!
