"Delamotte Salon is owned by the ubiquitous producer of Champagne..."
Delamotte Salon is owned by the ubiquitous producer of Champagne Laurent-Perrier. The first half of this prestigious company is Delamotte, a small house that produces true artisan Champagne. The second half is Salon, with a mere 38 vintages in 100 years to its name and arguably Champagne?s greatest producer. Delamotte is sometimes referred to as the second label of Salon. While it is true that some of the prized juice from Salon does indeed find its way into the Delamotte range, they are 2 separate producers. Delamotte is a blend of 50% Chardonnay, 30% Pinot Noir and 20% Pinot Meunier and is allowed to rest on its lees for a minimum of four years, exceeding the 18 months required for Brut Champagne. Delamotte is simply a pleasure to hold in the mouth. Rich, full bodied yet elegant this NV contains gorgeous toasty characters that one would hope to find in a Chardonnay-dominated blend. The NSW wine writer Huon Hooke comments are certainly worthy of mention: ?Subtle creamy, nutty aromas; fresh and clean. The palate is rich and fine, subtly complex and with some liqueur sweetness in harmony with the other components. Streamlined and lingering: a great non-vintage.? 95 Points ?Best Sparkling?; Huon Hooke, Good Living, Sydney Morning Herald ? 31/7/07 Rober Parker must also be noted when he referred to Delamotte as: ?One of the best buys in exquisitely crafted Champagne, this wine smells of fresh bread dough intermixed with buttery citrus. It reveals light to medium body, extraordinary precision, and a lingering effervescence with tiny pinpoint bubbles. Rated: 91/100 - Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate Delamotte is such a well balanced, clean and delicate NV that we have chosen to pour it as an aperitife at our wine dinners for many years. Vivid gold in colour, gorgeous crisp apples, hints of citrus with just a touch of minerality and no signs of any harshness. Who wouldn?t want to start their night off with this!
