ANDREW THOMAS 'KISS' SHIRAZ 2009, 750ml (Bottle)

  • Notes above from the last vintage release (2007). New vintage notes to follow release.
  • Lifted confectionary, ripe plum and blackberry notes followed by some mocha displaying good intensity a more McLaren Vale like sniff than traditional Hunter Valley.
  • On the palate there are joosy flavours of ripe plum, blackberry, dark chocolate and liquorice allsorts followed by some spice on the back palate. Very fine grained tannins with long aftertaste of blackberry, blackpepper, spice and toast.

JASPER HILL 'GEORGIA'S PADDOCK' SHIRAZ 2009, 750ml (Bottle)

  • A classic, with perfect balance that can be drunk from now over the next two decades, with complete confidence.
  • Giving fragrant aromas of peaches, poached pears, frangipani, preserved ginger, and delicious dark fruit.
  • Beautiful deep crimson colour with trademark flavours of concentrated red fruits and mixed spices with a voluptuous mouth-coating texture. High natural acidity balances abundant tannins.

KAESLER 'OLD BASTARD' SHIRAZ 2009, 750ml (Bottle)

  • This is a very restrained style of OB, backwards in that the palate structure is opposite to older vintages with its acid lead instead of fruit, backwards in that it reaches back to the Barossa styles of the 80's and backwards in that it will require time to unfold. Its lines and purity suggest to me that it has plenty of foundation to support bottle age and I suspect that unlike the 2008, this wine will evolve with bottle age being its key feature. I think it could be a genuine 30 years prospect. Reid Bosward - Winemaker
  • Bright and welcoming, but still an eye of fruit that is hard to un-wind. What can be seen though is a bowl of red fruits, ink with a streak of fresh rhubarb. The oak leaves a scent of Arabic spice market, not too strong though.
  • As the first sip enters the palate it is with bright structured acid. The acid is soft and milk chocolate like, it has some shape and texture of its own. After the acid rests and prepares the tongue, a nice glow of fruits emerge, not too dis-similar to the aroma, but pomegranate and rhubarb prevail. The finish is of superfine talc like tannins, mostly from the fruit but a little wood tannin can be detected but will meld with time.

KILIKANOON 'ATTUNGA 1865' SHIRAZ 2006, 750ml (Bottle)

  • Aged 25 months in 100% new French hogsheads.
  • Notes of creosote, blueberries, crushed rocks, and acacia flowers.
  • While it possesses extraordinary richness, what the taster gets is a sense of definition, elegance, finesse, and tremendous intensity. It appears to be seamlessly constructed, but I suspect more tannin will emerge once it has had some time in a cold cellar.
